All private lessons include one-on-one instruction in either hand-building or wheel throwing. The cost is $75.00 an hour per person for up to 2 people. There is a $35.00 charge for any additional person. (Ages 10 + for wheel lessons) If purchasing online be sure to call and schedule your lesson!

These private lessons are great for date night, girl’s night out, and a great experience.

Work can be picked up two weeks after the lesson unless otherwise specified.

INCLUDES: use of tools \ clay \ instruction \ glazes \ bisque firing and glaze firing making all work microwave and dishwasher safe!

About the teachers:

Megan Shifflett has a BFA in Ceramics and Painting from the University of Montevallo.  She received her MFA in Ceramics from Rochester Institute of Technology, School for American Craft in 2010. She has been teaching Ceramics at University of South Alabama since graduating with her Masters. She purchased The Kiln in 2019 to share her devotion for the ceramic arts and further her ceramic career. While in graduate school, her main focus was sculpting figurative pieces but she enjoys both hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques. Her enthusiasm for the material and teaching is infectious among her students.

Letty Oratowski is a lifelong artist who received a BA degree in Arts Education from Newark State College in NC. She went on to earn a Masters Degree from the University of Iowa with a major in ceramics.  She went on to build her own gas-fired kiln and pottery studio, which she operated independently for many years.  She taught ceramics at Columbia High School in the adult education program in Maplewood, NJ.  Letty also paints, working in watercolors, oils and mixed media.  She has shown in many juried exhibits and won numerous awards and recognitions.  After moving from NJ three years ago, she now lives in Fairhope and continues making ceramics at The Kiln Studio and Gallery.  Painting and drawing images on pottery are her current preoccupation.

Donna Kemp has been working in clay for many years.  She has been published in the 500 hundred series books 3 times and has won various awards for her hand built sculptures.  Donna is a dedicated instructor and maker.

Refund Policy: The Kiln will fully refund payment if a student withdraws 5 DAYS PRIOR to the first class. After that time period, there will be no refund. If a class does not meet minimum enrollment, student may receive a full refund or transfer to another class with space available. Any missed classes can be made up within the six week class period by attending another class if there is room or during Saturday hours.
